UBC Melee
UBC Melee is the Super Smash Bros. Melee club at UBC and the main crew behind regional tournaments in the area. The first time they asked me for a tournament placement graphic, I took the chance to freshen up the look with a new logo. Since then, they’ve let me handle the visuals for their events, giving me full creative freedom to bring each tournament’s theme to life in different styles. It’s been awesome getting to experiment with fun, energetic designs while supporting one of the region’s tightest gaming communities.
branding

The branding leans on the UBC crest while bringing in fun Melee elements, like the Smash Ball or the waves from Yoshi’s Story. By combining the university’s identity with iconic parts of the game, each design feels connected to both UBC and the world of Melee. This approach gives the club a playful, unique look that can shift with each tournament while still feeling instantly recognizable.
BC Melee Arcadian 2025

The BC Arcadian 2025 was a tournament where ranked players from the region were banned from entering, giving unranked players a rare shot at prize money and the glory of a big win. Apart from helping with the branding and running the stream, I also designed a custom winner’s t-shirt as part of the prize. For the visuals, I pulled inspiration from WWE’s Money in the Bank and the flashy mid-2000s rap “Pen & Pixel” style, loud, chaotic, and over the top. The result captured both the underdog spirit and the showmanship that make Arcadians such a unique and exciting part of the Smash community.

Y to Jump was a BC regional esports tournament that brought together some of the top players from across the Pacific Northwest. For the event’s branding, I leaned into an urban street aesthetic, drawing inspiration from paste ups and graffiti. The visual identity was built around a brick wall texture, serving as the foundation for every asset. To keep the theme authentic, I designed custom paste up elements and incorporated graffiti effects into the event’s typography, especially for stream graphics, which gave the tournament a gritty and energetic feel that matched its competitive spirit.
